The Wrinkle Cure: Reverse Wrinkles With Diet & Lifestyle

'The Wrinkle Cure' is a New York Times bestseller by Dr Nicholas Perricone MD, and is about how proper nutrition and lifestyle can actually help reduce the signs of skin aging.

In particular, Dr Perricone pays a lot of attention to a healthy diet, and how different parts of your diet can help slow down skin aging.

What impressed me most about the book was that he included several before and after pictures of women who have followed his wrinkle plan over a period of months.

What did the pictures show?

Well, the skin appearance of the women showed:

1. A lifting of the skin and facial features.

2. Improvement in the women's skin blemishes.

I must admit, these improvements were not to the extent that a great wrinkle cream or plastic surgery would have, but they were there.

When you looked at the pictures, you could tell that the after picture looked younger as the skin was 'lifted up' more which was helpful in a youthful appearance.

And generally the skin tone was better, and there were less blemishes visible in some women.

Healthy diet tip

The Perricone diet tips were very thorough, one of his tips was to eat low glycemic (GI) foods, and to avoid refined foods and refined sugars.

Why?

It's because the high GI foods generated more free radicals and hence more skin aging, than low GI foods.

What are some examples of high GI carbs to avoid?

Well, they're foods such as white bread, sugar, most rice, biscuits and cakes, potatoes, and fruit juices.

Instead have low GI carbs such as grainy or sourdough bread, Basmati rice, honey, yoghurt, fruits, vegetables, and fish.

So a healthy diet that's low GI foods means less free radicals, and less aging stress on your skin.

See my page here on an explanation of low GI foods to see how high GI foods relate to more oxidative stress and free radicals thatn low GI foods.

And besides lwo GI foods mean a reduced risk of diabetes, obesity, hyperlipidemia and mood problems as well.

And there are other advice in the book as well, such as to have high antioxidant foods, essential faty acids (omega 3 and alpha lipoic acid) enough sleep every night, avoid too much sun, and enough exercise.

All helpful tips to reduce the aging process.

Dr Perricone is the author of a few diets, which includes the Perricone prescription diet for weight loss, the 3 day diet (3 day facelift diet), and the wrinkle cure.

Keep this tip of low GI foods in mind as a part of your wrinkle treatment.

His diets are based on foods that are:

1. Less inflammatory to give better looking skin

2. Omega 3 rich foods to help with dry skin

3. Foods high in DMAE such as salmon which helps with skin tone.

4. Foods that are high in antioxidants to reduce free radical damage to the skin.

5. Foods which contain a large amount of fibre to help lower the glycemic value of meals as well as to bind toxins to help detoxify the body.

When the body is healthier and less toxic, then the body, including the skin can function and look better as well.

There is a lot to be said about this combined approach. The benefits are:

4. Better mental functioning

5. Reduced risk of many degenerative diseases.
